The Artist's Doodle- Behind the Scenes

To celebrate Art for Arts Sake and art appreciation, we wanted to spotlight one of our own local artists, Caroline Morrison. Caroline is a New Orleans native with a bachelor of fine Arts from the College of Charleston, and a graduate degree from Savannah College of Art and Design. Caroline specializes in watercolor, oil painting, and illustrations.

This Saturday, Caroline will be partnering with  C Collection for a special event. She will be customizing needle-point boards complimentary with purchase. Ahead of this event I visited Caroline in her studio to ask her some questions about herself, her art, and what to expect from this event.

When asked how she would describe her artistic style she says: “Vibrant and whimsical. I try to paint from my imagination, keeping my art style technical and unique.”

Caroline says she finds the most inspiration from “ Pierre Auguste Renoir, James Mcneill Whistler, and Edgar Degas.” She adds on, “I also take inspiration from children’s book illustrations. My favorite children’s book illustrators are Robin Preiss Glaar, of the Fancy Nancy book series and Jill Braklem of the Brambly Hedge book series.”

When asked how she got into needlepoint, she responded: “Growing up my brother and I were never allowed to complain about being bored. My mom, Jen,  would always say ‘only boring people get bored.’ Instead, she would encourage us to go play outside or do a craft. Needle pointing was one of my favorite crafts, and she often needle pointed with me.”

Caroline wants newcomers to needlepoint to know that, “it is a great way to unplug and relax. When needlepointing, your design and thread colors are already planned out, all you have to do is focus on your stitch, and watch your design come to life.”

As for what shoppers can expect at the event, “a hand painted design catered to whatever they can imagine. I think in the age of AI, people crave things that have a human touch.”

We hope you’ll join us this Saturday to create your custom board, unplug from your phone, and discover a new hobby that’s a little more fun than scrolling.

XOXO,

Cali
